The Science Behind Atmospheric Water Generation
AWGs operate based on a simple but powerful principle — condensation. The air around us contains water vapour in varying amounts depending on temperature and humidity. When warm, humid air is cooled below its dew point, the water vapour condenses into liquid form. This is the same process that causes morning dew on grass or fog on a cold glass.
In an AWG, fans draw in ambient air and pass it over a cooled surface (typically powered by a compressor-based refrigeration system or thermoelectric cooling). As the air touches the cooled coils, water vapour condenses and is collected into a reservoir. The water then undergoes multiple stages of filtration, UV sterilisation, and mineralisation to ensure it meets drinking water standards.
This process can yield anywhere from 10 to 250+ litres per day, depending on the size of the unit, local humidity, and temperature levels.
